Amano Jyaku
The languid poses, those considerable assets, the frequent need to expose themselves whatever the setting — these are all the hallmarks of a classic pinup girl. But throw in an infusion of techno-anime funk and some pop-culture sizzle and you’ll have the captivating cartoon women of Amano Jyaku.
Mr. Jyaku’s work nearly defies description, but seems to be a melding of anime’s bold shapes and bright colors, with western comic’s proportions and airbrush shading. But this mix is volatile, and he’s constantly tweaking the recipe to suit the subject.
Drawing from an eclectic whirlwind of source material, Amano has parodied and/or honored comicbook superheroines, leading scifi ladies from film and tv, and cartoon characters from around the world. He seems willing and able to take inspiration from almost any source, as long as he can translate it into a beautiful, undressed woman.
The images have grown so small on Mr. Jyaku’s site that you’re better off just going to his hosted gallery. It’s a shame, but there it is.
