With an inner eye firmly fixed on massive monsters and lanky ladies, Mr. James expels his imaginary demons with precision and style. A surprising degree of detail can be found in his works, yet these idealized forms are subtly — or occasionally, wildly — distorted into otherworldly proportions. These twisted, textured portraits are then expertly framed with dramatic lighting and smoldering backgrounds.

Tyler’s seductive sirens and brutal beasts are surely captivating, but once the true measure of their malevolence or mischievousness is known, we may be grateful for their imaginary status.
