Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy: Lovebirds of Prey
Harley Quinn is riding high in both animated and live action DC projects of late, and while she’s been given free rein to be vulgar and violent, there’s an aspect of her life that’s yet to be seen on the small or large screen: Harley and metahuman seductress Poison Ivy are clearly supervillains with benefits.
Harley and Ivy’s relationship has been documented several times in actual DC publications. You can check, I’ll wait. Harley has had nothing but pain from the men in her life (Joker, Batman) and Ivy’s mind-altering abilities make a satisfying relationship impossible with a man. It’s only natural that they would seek solace in each other’s arms.
Are they victims of straight-up straightwashing, or do her writers worry that a romantic relationship with Ivy would confuse the narrative of Harley’s unhealthy fascination with the Clown Price of Crime? Hopefully it’s just being saved for character development in either the cartoon series or future feature films. Until then, the comics — and talented artists like SunsetRiders7, Sakimichan, JubikNeon, Didi-Esmerelda, and Koimii — generously provide ample exploration of Harley and Ivy’s complicated relationship!
