As a secretive cabal of archivists, translators and field agents work tirelessly to expand the world’s knowledge of an ancient tome of collected erotic writings collectively titled “The Erotinomicon“, their works are slowly made available to their sponsors. The world however, is given tantalizing glimpses of their fantastic findings.

As sure as primitive weapons can inflict compound fractures, the prospect of sexually-tinged abuse is a perennial favorite of the The Erotinomicon’s Curator in Chief, and it should come as no surprise that he often directs his workers to concentrate on this particular facet of the discovered texts.

Several pieces seem to paint a painfully complex portrait of women — both human and elfin — taking pleasure in perpetrating acts of titillating torment. The context and outcomes of these sadistic sessions of female domination may be lost to us, but we can only marvel at the dedication and skill with which their victims were made to writhe in agony and ecstasy.

The Lucid Skin tradition of celebrating the new year with a new feature image was skipped last year, so it’s only fitting that we introduce not one, but many new feature images from a few artistic friends.

Veronica V. Jones has been our artist of choice from the beginning, but we’ve also added a few choice works from Jae Clevella’s and Jon Darkly’s Erotinomicon.

Our initial selection seems to heavily favor fairies, but a few mere mortals will also accompany your visits to the site. More artwork will be added to the mix as time and fate allow.

Since the Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife, artists have explored the probing, entangling tentacle as a remarkably versatile replacement for the fallible phallus. The resident research illustrators at The Erotinomicon have also been working hard to discover the source of this omnipresent appendage’s power.

Lead limner Jae Clevella’s take on the tantalizing tentacle seems to be one of indifferent interloper at best, and ravenous ravisher at wost. The haughty wenches in his works seem past due for a comeuppance that only a ferocious flock of frisky feelers can deliver.

The lengthy, limber limbs have a kinder, gentler side in they eyes of Johnathan Darkly, however. His tender tenticular tableau are in stark contrast to the punishing penetrations promised elsewhere in the Tome of Lust. Here, they are greeted with loving caresses and gentle kisses.. but this may be the exception that proves the rule.

Whatever your opinion or experience with this invasive invertebrate innovation, you will find it challenged and expanded by these diligent daubers of digital delusions.

Amanda Gannon’s recent article Sucker Love: Celebrating the naughty tentacle has caused us to reevaluate our conspicuous silence regarding one of Johnathan Darkly’s recent creations: an eerie movie innocently titled Rendezvous.

Sumi and Navi — Jon’s busty space ninja and slender alien beauty — have graced his site for years, but the complex, looping animation of their first zero gravity kiss is something previously unseen. As they tumble in each other’s arms, you can certainly appreciate the craftsmanship of the figures from nearly every angle.

Let’s hope Mr. Darkly can keep up this relatively frenzied pace of artistic innovation, and that we aren’t left waiting for most of a year for his next curious creation.

For as long as we’ve know the fellow, Johnathan Darkly has been living a double life. He’s featured lightly clothed and nearly nude figures on one website, and inadequately clothed and brazenly nude figures on another. Dubbed the ‘lite side’ and the ‘dark side’ respectively, these two destinations have finally been fused into one comprehensive collection of three-dimensional fantasy females: luminous shadows.

This expanded “gray” site is also 100% stereographic, meaning every piece can be viewed in a variety of free-view 3D formats. This is sort of like a mashup of a View-Master toy with those horrible “Magic Eye” posters. Other, more unusual viewing options are also available, but still take a little getting used to. If enough people complain about Mr. Darkly’s default “jigglestereo” option, maybe he’ll change it.

Eyeball acrobatics aside, the view itself is certainly strange and lovely.

Since its inception, The Erotinomicon has been no stranger to controversy. With an impressive collection of wanton works documenting the sexual exploits of demons, aliens, fairies, and countless other mythical and fictional creatures, there is certainly something to shock and awe all but the most jaded interdimensional traveler.

Most recently, however, a disturbing new trend appears to be emerging in the ignominious illustrations of this most debauched of digital domains: inappropriate glowing.

Some unexplained light sources are a complete mystery, little more than a dramatic — yet improbable spotlight focusing on a particularly noteworthy act of unbridled lust, but much more unsettling are visions of glowing appendages and radiant organic fluids… neither of which are traditionally renown for their luminescent properties.

Repeated requests for an explanation for this phosphorescent phenomenon have as yet gone unanswered, but we will redouble our efforts to get to the bottom of this sudden, strange sexual shimmering.

We can only assume it was the perfect storm of riding a pop-culture wave months gone coupled with the prospect of not having to create any new clothing that lead our friend Johnathan Darkly to de-zombify his spokesmodel Bianca in favor of a decidedly feminine take on Watchmen‘s Dr. Manhattan.

He assures us that the good doctor’s diminutive hero mask maintains Bianca’s streak of wearing spectacle-like facial appliances, and that she’s promised not to compromise the intrinsic field of any web visitors.

Now, if Mr. Darkly could only return to the good work of making new 3d lovelies — or even a guy for once — in his own uncompromising style.

Jon’s consolidated all of his art into one gray hot mess, and Bianca is no longer blue. Fortunately, she looks fabulous whatever she’s wearing.

Feeling a bit nostalgic, we’ve updated the Lucid Skin logo with a bit of the art deco glory it had in it’s youth. Of course, no theme update would be complete without another lovey creature from the mind and stylus of Veronica V. Jones. Even as a sketch, this demon’s desirable qualities were readily apparent, so Johnathan Darkly put some wobbly color to her and a new resident beauty was born.

Fairies are known the world over as beautiful, but mischievous creatures that tempt mortals with wine and dance to an early, eternal sleep. Our resident synthetic sculptor has explored his lust/hate relationship with these tiny temptresses, and the evidence is… intriguing.

Mr. Darkly has placed a small swarm of these impetuous imps on his website luminous shadows in that somewhat cool, somewhat annoying jigglestereo format. Jon has also somewhat cryptically told us that they will also be featured doing “battle” with his top-heavy huntress Katarine over at the Erotinomicon.

We just have a hard time believing that fairies are really as horrible as he makes them out to be. Maybe he’s just heard the wrong kind of bedtime stories once too often.

The Artistic process is rarely an effortless thing. It takes talent of course… but often, other critical skills are needed to bring a particular piece to fruition. In the case of Lucid Skin’s most recent artistic enhancement, it took not an insignificant amount of shameless begging to inspire Veronica to craft the sexy speckled sprite that now adorns our humble site.

Dignity is cheap, but art is eternal.

As much as I love our new flitting freckled fey, I miss the captivating creatures that have come before her. Those who share my nostalgia for our adornments of yore will shortly be able to share my remedy: digital wallpapers to profess your love for our former and current mascots for your virtual desktops. As you may imagine, Johnathan Darkly leads a complicated life. This faceless fellow’s sole reason for being is the creation of strangely improbable characters, but even such a singular focus is subject to further levels of categorization and classification.

Mr. Darkly’s family-friendly character designs appear on the “light side” of his luminous shadows gallery, and his most uninhibited creations are safely locked away at The Erotinomicon. Somewhere between these two extremes lies a recently reinvigorated repository of rendered ribaldry: luminous shadows dark.

This purgatory of prurience lay idle for much of last year, due to the seemingly mistaken belief that all of Jon’s works were either “naughty” or “nice”. Thankfully, this fallacy has been found out, and the “dark side” is once again alive with more erotic — but not explicit — depictions of the denizens that inhabit Jon’s many worlds.

One characteristically disturbing feature of Jon’s artwork that has carried over to this intermediate venue is the wiggly, jittery nature of his sensual subjects. This ‘Jigglestereo’ presentation is one of many stereoscopic techniques he uses to rail against the flatness of his chosen medium. Jon’s war may be pointless, but you have to admire his troops!

Due to the recent bad publicity heaped upon people with albinism, we are obliged to introduce you to Johnathan Darkly‘s latest character: Bai Yu. Like the crazed monk from the Da Vinci Code, she’s a very spiritual person, but the comparison ends there.

She’s a beautiful extradimensional anthropologist who tracks down otherworldly creatures and documents her encounters. We’re fairly certain that’s just Jon’s way of saying she has sex with demons, but we’ll all have to wait to be certain — he’s only produced a few tantalizing images of her so far.

Regardless, that’s a a huge step up from a sadomasochistic, homicidal clergyman, no?
